1995-1998年 丹麦皇家美术学院理论艺术系；1985-1993年 丹麦皇家美术学院雕塑系毕业。

前 言
20年来的丹麦画家蒙拉德一直保持在同一个项目的工作：他尝试着最大限度地打开绘画潜力的同时避免架上绘画行为衰落。换句话说：确保绘画停留在一个当代的语境。经过长期的努力， 他尝试从古典传统元素延伸到他独特的绘画方式， 传统不再是被动的接受，而是通过从不同的方式给历史和传统以新的图解。从他最近为北京A 艺术中心绘制的现代具象水墨画中我们可以看到，他在创作中提炼出的特殊意义。
在他有超过上百个人物的《人墙》一画中我们看到的是现代布旅盖尔式的如一团在弱肉强食中不断攀升后又最终消失在永恒之中的欲望。
蒙拉德的绘画理念就是利用水墨来作为媒介来实行他的三个基本经验; 那就是从属与每一个人想像的特殊的个体; 可以彼此交流的并从属于我们每一个人所认知周围世界的常识。
最后是文化层面，即存在于围绕在我们周围的无论是来自艺术历史或从昨天的报纸的图像。
为了这次在中国的展览，蒙拉德创作了5 × 6米的水墨巨作，同时也用五幅油画和他在中国旅行时在宣纸上创作的水墨肖像。

Preface：
Through the last 20 years the Danish painter Ib Monrad Hansen has been working on one and the same project: to find out how to open for the representative potentials of painting, and at the same time avoid that the painting acts regressively. In other words: to make sure that it stays within a modern horizon. Through a long series of works, which are often made over a very long period of time, he has developed a way of painting that tries to renew elements from the classical tradition. Tradition, not understood as a passive transition as characteristic in premodernity, but understood as an active choice from the many different means of production, carried on from tradition up through history. Recently the modern figure has had his special interest, as it also shows from his INK, which will be the main work in the exhibition at the Lanlan Gallery. Here one sees hundreds of figures, who in a modern Brueghel-like inferno in a sort of unending spiral of desire fight intensely to reach the top, which nevertheless seems to vanish in eternity. Ib Monrad Hansens theory of painting is, that it, thanks to the fluid of the paint, as a medium manage to combine tree essential departments of experience: the specifically individual, which belongs to the imagination of each single person; the common sense, which belongs to everybody’s perception of the world around us, and that can be communicated; and – finally – the cultural level, that exists in the pictures, which circulate around us, whether they originate from the history of art or from yesterday’s newspaper. Besides the 5 x 6 meters ink painting, INK, made specifically for the Chinese exhibition, he shows 5 oil paintings as well as a series of ink portraits made on his journey through China.
