Head of the Fraunhofer ISST, Prof. Dr. Jakob Rehof, says:

“The new research centre in Copenhagen will give us the opportunity to learn from experiences made in both countries. For example in the field of telemedicine, this gives us a chance to check user preferences and barriers across borders.”

Danish Minister for Trade and Investment, Mrs. Pia Olsen Dyhr, says:

“I am convinced that this alliance will further strengthen the future collaboration in the health care industry between Denmark and Germany. The new Fraunhofer Innovation Alliance in Copenhagen allows the well-known German software engineering company to tap into the talents and creative innovation in the Danish health care industry. The very reason why a number of foreign companies have already established R&D and production facilities in Denmark to grow their global business.

The objective of the alliance
The objective of the alliance is to develop a Fraunhofer ISST E-Health Innovation Center to be located in Copenhagen, Denmark.  The overall mission of the alliance is research and development of innovative deployable E-Health solutions for the benefit of society with a focus on both preventive applications and healthcare applications for patients and healthcare providers. The alliance shall bundle and reinforce joint technology competencies as well as partner and customer links between Denmark and Germany.

The partners of the alliance are

Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering ISST, Dortmund, Germany
DELTA (Danish GTS leading RTO in E-Health), Copenhagen, Denmark
Aalborg University (Department of Computer Science and Department of Health Science & Technology), Aalborg, Denmark
KU, University of Copenhagen Department of Computer Science and Center for IT-Innovation), Copenhagen, Denmark.
Denmark has a strong life science cluster
Denmark is an excellent location for R&D and production with the life science sector. The Danish life science industry has developed into one of the strongest clusters in Europe, and it is an international example of how to successfully turn academic knowledge into commercial business. The industry consists of a dense network of universities, hospitals and companies working closely together within medical technology, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals where focus is largely on research and development.

Time and place
The alliance will be presented at the World Forum for Medicine, Medica, in Düsseldorf, Germany:
Time:  14th november 2012, 12.00 – 12.30 o’clock
