Danish retailers have been successful in penetrating the Chinese market. Most recently, JYSK, a Danish linen warehouse, signed an agreement in Shanghai to ensure that the Chinese can buy mattresses and pillow covers from one of the 500 new stores. Not only JYSK is doing well in China – many other Danish companies are having success on the Chinese market.
Some of the other major retailers in China are Bestseller, Dyrberg/Kern, Ecco and B&O.

Bestseller is the Danish fashion giant behind brands such as Vero Moda, Jack & Jones, and Only and the company is one of the Danish retail industry's biggest successes in China. Since 1996 the company has opened approximately 2,000 stores in China, and launched a fourth brand, Selected, in August last year,.

The giant shoe retailer, Ecco, which is headquartered in Denmark, is also well established in mainland China. Ecco not only runs a major shoe factory in China, the Chinese consumers seem to like the Danish products. So much so that Ecco expects to double their turnover on the Asian market by 2011.

Another company which also has shifted its focus to the Asia market is the jewelry company Dyrberg/Kern. The company opened its first Chinese store in 2003 and now 92 percent of the present turnover consists of sales abroad, with China considered the company's largest growth engine. Most recently, the jewelry company opened a flagship store in Shanghai.

Even though the recession takes its toll on many businesses, many of the companies maintain their focus on Asia and China. One of those companies is the faggot-end consumer electronics group, B&O, which has experienced a serious decline in sales. Many consumers have turned their backs on the Danish design icon, but B&O has nevertheless maintained its investment in foreign markets. Russia and China are designated as potential growth markets for the group, which plans to open 40 new stores in both countries next year. Today, B&O has 18 stores spread across 12 Chinese cities.

These stories about the Danish companies in China all indicate the momentum the Chinese economy has got at the moment, and even though talks about recession might make many companies hesitate to make business in China, Danish retailers seem to meet the demand in times of crisis.
