Do you want to be a translator at the
Badminton World Team Championships in Aarhus?
The Badminton World Team Championships (also called Thomas Cup for men’s teams and Uber Cup for women’s teams) has been postponed twice because of the ongoing global situation with COVID-19, but now the Badminton World Federation has decided to go ahead as planned - meaning that the event will take place already next month, from
3-11 October 2020 at Ceres Park & Arena in Aarhus.
We know this is just around the corner from now, but it also means we are looking for people who would like to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime experience and volunteer as translators to/from English and the following Asian languages:
Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian, and Malaysian.
The translators will be required to assist at interviews between the players and the media after their team matches. In addition there can come some special requests during the event - obviously, we cannot predict that in advance. There will be team matches beginning at 8:30, 13:30 and 19:00 every day from 3-9 October, at 13:00 and 19:00 on 10 October, and on 13:00 on 11 October. As soon as we know when the specific teams will play we will know when we need translators for which languages.
Due to the COVID-19 situation, the organizers are taking all necessary precautions as the security for anyone participating in the event is of top priority. This also means that you will be tested for COVID-19 several times during the event at the expense of the organizers. You will also be provided with facemasks when and where necessary and there are restrictions of where people can go at the arena and finally hand sanitizers everywhere.
You will get an official shirt from the event to be worn when on duty and your meals will also be paid when on duty but do note that otherwise participation is voluntary; we do not get paid and travel to/from Aarhus and accommodation will be at our own expense. Therefore it would be best for you if you are already living in Aarhus.
So if these conditions attract you and you are fluent in one of the above-mentioned languages and would like to spend some time among some of the best badminton players in the world, then please do not hesitate to get in touch with me!
Thank you!
