The Royal Danish Embassy opens pavilion at Green Building Expo in Beijing

The 1st of April the Royal Danish Embassy in Beijing opened a pavilion at the 9th International Conference on Green and Energy-Efficient Building and New Technologies and Products Expo, which takes place in Beijing International Convention Center (BICC). The Danish Pavilion covers an area of 180 square meters and is established in order to promote Danish competences in the building sector in the Chinese market.

The Green building Conference was opened by the Chinese Vice Minister, mr. Qiu Baoxing, from the Chinese Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MoHURD). The Vice Minister’s speech was followed by other keynote speakers, including ms. Susanne Nors, commercial counsellor at the Royal Danish Embassy in Beijing, who talked about green buildings and energy efficiency in China.

“We all know that China’s economic growth and fast development represent huge potentials but also enormous challenges. This is particularly the case when it comes to China’s rising energy consumption and the environmental challenges related to the use of fossil fuels. Green, energy efficient buildings represent a major part of the solution,” said counsellor Nors.

After the Grand Opening of the Green Building Conference the Danish Pavilion held an opening ceremony followed by a VIP tour. Among the invited guests were Beijing Construction Commission, Beijing Urban Planning Commission, MoHURD – the Chinese Ministry responsible for the Expo – and Chinese and Danish media based in Beijing.

Danish participants
The Danish Pavilion hosts seven Danish companies that hold solid competences in sustainable urban and building design. The companies offer world class solutions in the fields of sustainable development and green growth, which China is in need of in order to build energy efficient structures, as well as renovate for higher energy efficiency and deliver energy efficient building material.

The Danish companies are COWI, KPF Arkitekter, Roxul, Danish Energy Management, FISH China and Danish Technological Institute and Copenhagen Solutions. The exhibition Copenhagen Solutions is developed by the Danish Architecture Centre for Copenhagen Solutions, which is a public, private partnership of Copenhagen municipality and the philanthropic association Realdania.
