0207 Post-Doctoral Fellowship

Applications are invited for a 1 year position as post-doctoral fellowat Enzyme and Protein Chemistry (EPC), Department of Systems Biology,Technical University of Denmark (DTU) to work in the center “BiologicalProduction of Dietary Fibres and Prebiotics” supported by the DanishStrategic Research Council (FøSu programme).

Department of Systems Biology represents a large concentration ofacademic biotechnological research in Denmark, including protein andenzyme chemistry, food biochemistry, bioinformatics, systems biology,molecular biology, fermentation technology, physiology and genetics ofindustrial microorganisms and medical microbiology. The department has35 senior and 50 junior faculty members and post-doctoral fellows, 65PhD students and 80 technical/administrative personnel. In addition tobachelor, master and PhD education, collaborative research andinnovation together with national and international universities andindustries is given high priority at the department.

The Enzyme and Protein Chemistry group (EPC) has 5 senior and 6 juniorfaculty and post-doctoral fellows and 9 PhD students as well astechnical/administrative staff. The research involves enzymes andproteins acting on carbohydrates important as raw materials and forfood quality and nutrition as identified using functional proteomics,genome-mining and bioinformatics. This includes protein engineering andcharacterisation of protein/carbohydrate as well as protein/proteininteractions in relation to enzyme inhibition, redox regulation, cerealchemistry, probiotics and molecular modification of foods and rawmaterials improving the functional, nutritional, and health-relatedproperties.

Project description
The work comprises implementation of application of carbohydrate activeenzymes for oligosaccharide synthesis. Focus will be on synthesis ofoligosaccharides with potential prebiotic properties. The projectinvolves collaboration with the Department of Chemical and BiochemicalEngineering at DTU, DTU Food and Danisco A/S.

The post-doctoral fellowships will be offered to applicants with adocumented research record at an international level within the areasof carbohydrate active enzymes, protein and carbohydrate chemistry andmolecular biology. Experience with production of recombinant proteins,bioinformatics, structure/function relationship investigations, proteinengineering and molecular graphics software, is an advantage.

Qualifications
Applicants should have a PhD degree in enzyme and protein chemistry,molecular biology or biotechnology or equivalent academicqualifications and must be able to document excellent research at aninternational level within the field described above.

Terms of employment
The salary and appointment terms are negotiated in accordance with thecurrent collective agreement for Danish University faculty members.
