Postdoctoral position in Protein Expression

The Strategic Center "Biological Production of Dietary Fibers and Prebiotics", Dept. Chemical & Biochemical Engineering, The Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a Post doc position beginning September 1st 2009 and ending august 30, 2010.

Job description
The aim of the project is to find new efficient enzymes capable of hydrolyzing specific bonds in plant cell wall polymers. Potential enzyme producing strains are being selected among the 40.000 fungal strains in the DTU and other fungal collection. Some fungal strains have already been screened. The enzyme activities are currently been examined on solid and submerged media containing purified polymers derived from plant cell walls. The strains with enhanced activities of desired enzymes are being identified. The genes wil be cloned using the-state-of-art-technologies. Additional genes will be achieved in silico screening of relevant databases to detect and annotate new genes with desired activities. Some of these new genes have been identified and specific functionalities are being examined after expression in Bacillus subtilis and Pichia pastoris.

Qualifications
The candidate should have a PhD degree in molecular biology (or equivalent) and strong interests in gene expression in bacteria or yeast. The work requires basic knowledge on genetic engineering and bioinformatics and candidates with these experiences will be preferred.

Salary and appointment terms
The salary and appointment terms are negotiated in accordance with the current collective agreement for Danish University scientists.
