The Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark invites applications for an associate professorship of health sociology and social policy at the Unit for Health Promotion Research, Institute of Public Health, Campus Esbjerg.

Job description:

Research profile and tasks:

The candidate is expected to have a strong track record in sociology; we are – in particular - looking for a candidate with specialization and experience in health sociology and social policy. The associate professor is expected to contribute actively to the development of the Unit for Health Promotion’s research and teaching environment, and to perform teaching as well as supervisory duties at bachelor, master and PhD level.

Expectations of qualifications:

We expect experience with developing and designing research projects, strong knowledge especially in qualitative methods, international peer-reviewed publications, and experience in attracting research funding. Preference is given to applicants with good skills in Danish language as well as knowledge and experience in collaboration with different sectors and stakeholders in the Danish society.

Teaching profile and tasks:

Bachelor and master level teaching is expected at both basic and advanced levels of sociology related to the public health curriculum. Topics include: social science research methods (incl. qualitative), social science theory and its application to public health science and practice, social and health policy and critical reflection of public health research.

Expectations of qualifications:

The tasks include planning and coordinating BSc and MSc level modules in public health in the areas listed above

We expect a teaching portfolio, which shows the experience gathered and different tasks carried out. Please include the evaluation of prior teaching if available. The candidate should preferentially be experienced with student activating and student centered forms of teaching, such as problem-based learning, case study work or small group exercises, and supervision of BSc and MSc thesis work.

An expert committee, appointed by the university, will assess all applications, and the applicants will be individually informed of their assessment by the university.

• 10 publications considered as the most important for this application and marked in the list of publications
