Scandlines is one of the biggest operators in the field of transportation in Europe. The company has activities and staff in different locations in Northern Europe and is well known and well established. For the Group Procurement department, we are now looking for a professional Category Manager/Buyer to be based in the Rødby office.

The job
The Category Manager/Buyer will be a member of the group procurement department in charge of all sourcing and procurement of all product categories and services to the entire Scandlines group. The Category Manager/Buyer is reporting directly to the Purchasing Manager who is in charge of a total of 11 employees engaged in serving the internal Scandlines ”clients”.

The Category Manager/Buyer will be directly in charge of the following key responsibilities:

• Sourcing
• Vetting
• Management of suppliers
• Negotiations of contracts
• Coordination and back-up for the operational purchasers

The primary sourcing categories are within the following sectors - marine equipment, ship maintenance/repair/spare parts, plumber & sanitary equipment, facility services (cleaning services & equipment), office supplies/IT services/supplies, catering supplies/facilities, uniforms & workwear. The Category Manager/Buyer will be partly responsible for a procurement budget of EUR +100 Mn., sourcing from suppliers in primarily Northern Europe with a strong focus on building, maintaining and optimizing the relationship with the suppliers. Furthermore, - on an ad-hoc basis – the Category Manager/Buyer is expected to analyze and evaluate alternative sourcing options in order to reduce spendings on the procurement budget (save costs) and improve the efficiency and working procedures for the internal “clients”.

Your background
The preferred candidate has a theoretical background at Bachelor level and has some 3-5 years of experience as buyer/purchaser from a professional, internationally operating, company - maybe combined with a shipping education and/or technical background. The ideal candidate has a good knowledge of SAP (SRM) and is a super user of Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Experience from the marine/transportation industry is a preference, but not a key criteria. Fluency in Danish and English is essential, and a medium level of German an advantage.

The candidate is recognized for his/her professional skills within sourcing & procurement and supplier relationship. The ideal candidate is able to perform in a hectic business environment, is adaptable to change, pragmatic, a good communicator and strong service provider to both internal and external stakeholders. Further, the ideal candidate is a true negotiator with a strong commercial and legal business insight. The candidate must be able to work independently and is normally considered a self-starter.
