Applications are invited for a position as a postdoctoral researcher atthe Technical University of Denmark, National Veterinary Institute,Section for Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Sector Consultancy. Theposition is within the framework of the project “Optimizing the controlof foot-and-mouth disease in Denmark by simulation” supported by theDirectorate for Food, Fisheries and Agri Business.
The appointment is for two years but with a possibility for extension. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
Job description
Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a highly contagious and costly diseaseof cloven hoofed animals. Moreover, it is considered to be a constantthreat to European countries. The research focuses on the evaluation of3 available disease simulation models to examine their capabilities andweaknesses and the validity of their predictions. Furthermore, themodels will be used to simulate the potential spread of FMD in Denmarkusing Danish data on animal movements and herd size, type and location.Thereafter several FMD control strategies will be assessed using the 3simulation models. These strategies will be assessed on bothepidemiologic and economic bases. In the last phase of the project,future developments of the Danish livestock sector will be introducedto the models to examine the effect of these changes on the potentialspread and cost of FMD. During the project period, the candidate willcooperate with researchers from Denmark and other countries, and withindustrial partners.
Qualifications
The candidate has a degree in veterinary medicine (DVM)
The candidate has a PhD or is educated and qualified on a similar level in veterinary epidemiology and economics
The candidate has experience in using simulation models of dynamic systems, and modeling dynamics of contagious animal diseases
The candidate has the ability to contribute to development of the section’s internal and external cooperation
The candidate has good cooperation and communication skills

Salary and terms of employment
