Job description:

Professor with special responsibilities for developing research within
International Business-to-Business Relations and Supply Chain Management

At the Department of Border Region Studies (IFG), University ofSouthern Denmark, Campus Sønderborg, applications is invited for aposition as Professor with special responsibilities within the priorityarea: International Business-to-Business Relations and Supply ChainManagement. The position is for 5 years with possibilities ofprolongation. Expected start is Autumn 2009.

The department is situated in the beautiful premises at Alsion on theshore facing Sønderborg and the island of Als. From here there is only30 minutes by car to the Danish-German border, only 35 minutes by planeto Copenhagen. Hamburg, Kiel, Århus and Odense can be reached by carwithin 1½ - 2 hours. Sønderborg has a rich cultural life and issurrounded by pretty landscapes inviting for recreational activities.

The professorship
The new professor will as research director provide academic leadershipto the department in research and teaching in border region studies.She or he will be expected to
- pursue a research programme at the forefront of the subject, toengage in research of an international standard of excellence and tofurther develop the priority area,
- play an active role in securing research funding to support the research activities of the group,
- play an active role in the development of new courses,
- publish in high ranking peer-reviewed academic journals as well asengage in other forms and levels of research dissemination,
- participate in the teaching and administrative work of the Department,
- supervise, or assist in the supervision of students as required,
- undertake administrative duties as requested by the Head of Department,
- within a three-year-period foreign appointees are expected to be able to read and speak Danish.

International Business-to-Business Relations and Supply Chain Management
The research priority group in Business-to-Business (B2B) Relations andSupply Chain Management (SCM) is still in the first phase of beingestablished and manned. Its aim is to create new knowledge as to theinteraction of the businesses. The focus is on relations in the totalchain of activities from sub-supplier to the end-customer. The researchin Supply Chain Management (SCM) is concentrated on internationalmarketing. In order to create the desirable coverage it is thereforenecessary to consolidate the competences in B2B marketing and constructnew competences within especially SCM and Logistics - importantsubjects at the Master of Science programme in Sønderborg.

The research in B2B as well as in SCM has natural interfaces with theother business-, regional- and macroeconomic research areas at IFG.
The Department of Border Region Studies (IFG) is rooted in the uniquehistory of the Southern Danish border region. At the same time, thedepartment has a close relationship with the business community and thecultural institutions of the region. Due to a strong focus oncomparative aspects the department has developed a broad internationalresearch network within Europe.
The department offers teaching at all levels within businessadministration (Bachelor of Science in Business Administration), inBusiness Relationship Management (Master of Science) and in EuropeanStudies. The department is also responsible for teaching the businesseconomics components to the BSc Negot in Chinese in Sønderborg and isengaged in research and teaching collaboration with the Mads ClausenDepartment (Technical Faculty, Sønderborg, University of SouthernDenmark) and with the University of Flensburg, Germany.
App. 500 students from 50 countries worldwide are enrolled at the department.

Teaching language is English only.

Selection Criteria

Applications are welcome from candidates working in any area ofrelevance to International Business-to-Business Relations and SupplyChain Management, but preference will be given to candidates withcompetence and interest to stimulate and strengthen collaboration withthe other research groups at the department.

The successful candidate will be expected to satisfy the following selection criteria:
• A doctorate in an appropriate field.
• Proven research ability of an international standard of excellence, as judged by, inter alia,
o the number and quality of monographs and refereed publications;
o experience in research and teaching at minimum associate lecturer level;
o any research grant awards;
• an excellent standard and range of teaching skills;
• the ability to make an appropriate contribution to undergraduate and graduate teaching, including PhD supervision;
• the ability to contribute to course development, including but not restricted to his or hers area of specialisation.
