Professorships with special responsibilities in International Economics

The Department of Business and Economics, Odense, invites applicationsfor one or more vacant professorships with special responsibilities inInternational Economics, to be filled as soon as possible. Theprofessorships are limited to a period of 5 years with the possibilityof extension.

The successful applicant(s) will be part of the department’s EconomicsGroup. The group currently comprises twelve academic staff members andsix PhD students, conducting research within the broad areas ofinternational economics and applied microeconomics, as well aseconometrics and statistics applied in these fields. In addition, thegroup collaborates with researchers from other departments at theFaculty of Social Sciences as well as from other domestic and foreigninstitutions. The department is responsible for teaching economics andeconometrics to BSc and MSc in Economics, Business Administration andMathematical Economics, and to a number of supplementary educationprogrammes.

Applicants will be assessed according to their record of achievement inresearch at international level in the broad field of internationaleconomics, including open macroeconomics, international trade, anddevelopment economics. Applicants must be able to document a high levelof original scientific production of international standard and musthave contributed to the development of the academic field. Furthermore,applicants should have experience with research management, and theyare expected to have been supervisor for PhD students. Finally,substantial teaching experience in the fields of economics atundergraduate and graduate levels is required.

The successful applicant is expected to further develop the researchand teaching activities within the broadly defined area ofinternational economics. She/he should act as a kind of researchmanager for the group, respecting the individual researcher’s right tofree research. She/he is expected to extract external funding, and thesuccessful applicant is expected to take part in the Economics Group’steaching.

The University of Southern Denmark is a modern, multi-campus universitywith more than 1,000 researchers and 17,000 students in a wide varietyof scientific disciplines. The Department of Business and Economics islocated at the main campus in Odense, which with approximately 186,000inhabitants is the third-largest city of Denmark. Odense is beautifullylocated on the island of Funen in the heart of Denmark, and can bereached in around 90 minutes from Copenhagen, Aarhus, or theDanish/German border.

Application, salary, etc.:

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with theagreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the DanishConfederation of Professional Associations). The salary will correspondto LR 37 (pay bracket 37). To this must be added a pension-qualifyingsupplement.

The application should include a CV with a complete list ofpublications, documentation of teaching experience and qualifications,and a brief statement of the applicant’s plans for the development ofthe academic field in regard to both research and teaching. Theapplication should be sent in six (sorted) hard copies, and it shouldbe received by the end of the deadline. It is not possible to applyon-line or by e-mail. Applications will be assessed by a committee. Applicants will beinformed of their assessment by the university. The committee can demand the inclusion of further material,in which case it lies with the applicant to procure the necessarycopies of the material. The committee reserves the right to arrive at adecision solely based on the material submitted.
